The best things in life may not come for free, but high-achievers Levante have shown the value of a shrewd signing or two in the transfer market. The Valencia-based side have punched above their weight this season, and paid fees for only two of their players in the summer.

With debts rising and the crisis crunching across Spain, others will look to follow suit next summer - and there will be plenty of interesting players on the market.

Real Madrid recently activated a clause in the contract of Portugal's Ricardo Carvalho to automatically renew the defender for a third season at the Santiago Bernabeu, meaning that the capital club will be releasing no first-team footballers in the summer.

But Jose Mourinho's side are the exception as the other 19 top-flight teams - including Barcelona - will be shipping out some of their stars at the end of 2011-12.
