Why Fernando Torres Needs A Loan Spell To Revive His Career
With AC Milan reported to have shown interest in the Chelsea £50 million flop, Goal.com looks at why Torres could gain from a loan away from the pressure and scrutiny in the EPL.

Fernando Torres has had a terrible year in 2011. In fact, he has had a terrible period since his knee surgery in April 2010, right before the World Cup in South Africa. He looked below par in the matches he played. Everyone thought that David Villa and Fernando Torres will flourish together for the national side like they did in the Euro 2008. What they saw however, was unbelievable.
What had happened to the player who was Spain’s top scorer along with David Villa in the 2006 World Cup? Upon his return to Liverpool, he looked rusty though he did manage to score 9 goals in his last season at Anfield.
After becoming the most expensive British transfer signing when he decided to switch Anfield for Stamford Bridge, much was expected out of him. Buying Torres for £50 million when he was in his peak form like in 2007, would have made more sense. Nonetheless, Chelsea thought that they had got their match winner.
Presently we all know what El Niño’s state is. He is struggling to find form. He has been on the score sheet only 5 times in all competitions in 35 games for the Blues.
Supporters of Fernando Torres argued that a new season, new manager and a new winger would change this. Andre Villas-Boas did sign Juan Mata who everyone thought would give the best assists and crosses to Torres to make him shine. This however, was not to be.

There is no doubt that Torres still has the ability, He just needs to find the confidence. This can only happen if he gets more time in the game. It is very evident that Andre Villas-Boas does not want to put Chelsea’s title hopes on the line to get Torres back in form. But if Torres does not get back to his goal-scoring ways, then £50 million is literally like money down the drain.
An ideal solution is to take a loan spell at a top club. Why a top club? Because there he would be in the same level of competition, pressure to win matches like that in Chelsea.

AC Milan have most recently shown interest in the services of Torres for a six-month spell. But reports suggest Torres remains AC Milan’s second choice after Carlos Tevez. This move is primarily because of the lengthy absence of Antonio Cassano due to health problems. Owner Silvio Berlusconi wants to sign a high profile player.
It seems ideal for Torres since he could not have asked for a better club to revive his form. AC Milan are on top of Serie A table at the moment and are one of the serious contenders for the Champions League title.
Loan spells away from home prove highly beneficial. Joe Cole is doing very well at Lille. Alberto Aquilani also excelled at Juventes (although technically, that was not away from home) and is still doing wonders at AC Milan! Emmanuel Adebayor is scoring copiously at Tottenham.
Thus a move to AC Milan might be what would be advantageous for both Torres and Chelsea. Torres would get back his form and Chelsea would get the striker they paid £50 million for.
