Record champions Bengal defeated Manipur 2-1 in the final of the 65th Santosh Trophy at the JN Stadium in Guwahati. This is Bengal's 31st Santosh Trophy and also their second straight title.
Shabbir Ali's boys took the lead in the 21st minute in emphatic fashion as Branco Cardozo found the back of the net with a well taken volley from just outside the box.
Bengal doubled their lead just after the interval when Budiram Tudu scored from close range.
That second goal gave Bengal some breathing space but Nabachandra Singh pulled one back in the 75th minute to make it 2-1 and the game once again became a contest.
However in the end the holders held on to retain the trophy they had won last year by beating Punjab 2-1 in the final in Kolkata.
