North-eastern state Manipur became the first team to book their place in the final of the 65th Santosh Trophy as they edged past Services 1-0 after extra time in the first semi final played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on Thursday evening.
Thoiba Singh scored the only goal of the game with a penalty kick in the 116th minute.
The first half was a dull affair but in the second Manipur started strongly and could have taken the lead through Tikem Singh, who squandered an easy chance. Jimmy Singh also wasted a promising opening for Manipur.
It remained goalless at the end of 90 minutes but there were no goals in the first half of extra time also.
However ten minutes into the second period Sumesh of Services handled the ball inside the box and gave away a penalty.
Thoiba Singh made no mistake from the spot as Manipur took the vital lead and in the end held on to it.
Manipur will face the winner of the second semi-final between Bengal and Railways, which takes place on Friday.
