West Bengal’s acting captain in the Santosh Trophy final, Snehashish Chakraborty spoke to Goal.com on his team’s penalty shootout defeat to Goa.

Mohun Bagan defender Habibur Rehman Mondal was ruled out of the final due to excessive dehydration which allowed Snehashish to lead the West Bengal side in the final.

The left winger was honoured to lead the team but was at the same time disappointed to lose his second Santosh Trophy final.

Speaking to Goal.com he said, “It was honour to lead the Bengal side. It will definitely go down as an important moment of my football career but it would have been better had we won the game.”

When asked about the match he said, “A final is always going to be a close contest but we should have won the game in the ninety minutes.

“The game should have never gone to penalties but we couldn’t take our opportunities in normal time and then during the shootout it’s like a lottery.”

Goa won the tournament without conceding a goal, with goalkeeper Felix D’Souza being the star of the show.

But Snehashish believes Bengal’s Subhashish Roychowdhury is better than this week’s Goal.com World player of the week nominee.

“Goa are a good side but its not that their defence is unbeatable. It’s just that we couldn’t convert our chances.

“I think our keeper (Subhashish) is the better of the two but anything is possible in a penalty shootout and its unfortunate that two of our players missed their kicks,” he concluded.
