The debate as to which state is the hub of Indian football has been a debate which has been going for quite some time. While many believe the history and tradition of West Bengal is to respected and honoured while the others pick Goa, given their recent domination in all competitions.

Speaking to Goal.com, Climax Lawrence said, “Football is very popular in both the states – Bengal and Goa. Everyone wants their state to win. Bengal have a rich history while Goa has been doing well. I-League, AFC Cup and other tournaments have seen Goa perform very well.

“Ten years back, Goa lost 5-0 to Bengal at the very same venue. So, now it’s time for us to change that. I believe it will be a good final to watch for all the fans.”

West Bengal haven’t been in top form despite reaching the finals but Climax mentions that none must be taken lightly.

“We can’t make the mistake of underestimating an opponent. They have good players in Subashish, Habibur and Lalwampuia.”

But Goa’s performance in the semi-finals saw almost on their way back to Panaji as they were second best for most of the match.

“When you play a team playing at home, it’s always difficult. In the second half, Tamil Nadu played well. Things would have been different had Joaquim converted his chance in the first half,” said the Indian international.

The Goan skipper was seen chanting his son’s name after converting the spot-kick against Tamil Nadu in the injury time.

“That was for son, something special,” said Climax.
