Exclusive: Modise Thanks South African Fans For Pushing The Team Beyond Expectations
The Bafana’s Tsholofelo Modise and Matthew Booth spoke exclusively to Goal.com’s Peter Pedroncelli, following the narrow 3rd place play-off defeat to Spain...
Despite narrowly losing out on third place, following a Xabi Alonso extra-time stunner, South Africa’s Tsholofelo Modise was remaining positive as he spoke to Goal.com after the game.
“Overall, we had a good tournament,” remarked the Bafana midfielder.
“Together we have done our best and we need to thank the fans for helping us to go beyond what was expected of us. The fans are so important to us and we know they will give us the same support in the World Cup next year.”
After going so close to victory, Matthew Booth was understandably disappointed, as he spoke to Peter Pedroncelli shortly after.
“I am disappointed to have lost after we played so well, but Spain are top ranked in the World for a reason and they showed this today as they did in our first match,” remarked the towering defender.
“We need to keep improving and we have to threaten up front more,” he continued. We will work together in preparation for the World Cup next year, and we know [that] none of our places in the team are secure.”
