West Brom have taken pole position in the race to sign Wilfried Zaha on loan from Manchester United in January as the winger desperately seeks first-team opportunities.

Zaha has been told he will be allowed to leave on loan in the winter window having failed to make a Premier League appearance since his summer arrival in a deal worth up to £17 million.

A number of top-flight clubs are eyeing a move for Zaha and Newcastle had been the strongest contenders for his signature, but the 21-year-old has now developed reservations about moving to St James' Park.

Stoke, Fulham, Swansea and Everton have also expressed an interest in Zaha, but the player is now leaning towards West Brom as his preferred club as Steve Clarke looks to bolster his attacking options.

Zaha has struggled to settle in Manchester and regularly returns to London to spend time with family and friends.

The England Under-21 international's frustration at Old Trafford came to the fore on Friday when he took to social networking site Twitter to deny rumours of a relationship with Moyes' daughter.

"I would like to stop all these false accusations .. I will play for Manchester United when my manager feels I'm ready ...," he tweeted.

"I've never dated or even met David moye's [sic] Daughter so that isn't the reason for my absence in games."

Zaha's only two official appearances for United have come in the Community Shield and the Capital One Cup and he has not even featured in Moyes' matchday squad in the club's six league matches prior to the visit of Newcastle.

He has failed to make an impact and found himself behind Shinji Kagawa, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
