As per official dictum, the clubs in the I-League must have five U-23 players in their squad but Mohammedan have only included three.
Mohammedan Sporting have launched themselves into muddle with their latest move. The Kolkata based I-League club have signed five IMG-Reliance contacted players on loan viz. Syed Rahim Nabi, Ishfaq Ahmed, Mehrajuddin Wadoo, Manish Maithani and Luis Barreto.
But in doing so, they have overlooked a crucial judgement enacted by the I-League Committee, which calls for the inclusion of a minimum of five U-23 players in their squad of thirty.
To recap, before signing these players, the Mohammedan squad had twenty four registered players, with three under-23 players on their roster. They had six slots available with them to fill in four senior players and two Under-23 players to complete the quota.
So it was necessary for them to sign atleast two more Under-23 players. However, Mohammedan have gone ahead and signed five IMG-Reliance contracted senior players, with Barreto and Maithani already being registered.
This leaves them in a quandary as they can include only two more senior players amongst Nabi, Wadoo and Ahmed whilst adjust to signing two more U-23 players, the quota which still remains vacant.
