Malswamtulunga on the verge of joining East Bengal

The former Red and Gold winger is close to a return to his old stomping ground...
Prayag United's Shylo Malswamtulunga has revealed that he is close to putting pen to paper to a deal with East Bengal.

“Yes, talks are going on with them. Nothing has been finalized yet. I hope something fruitful comes out soon," he informed Goal.

It must be noted that Mohun Bagan had shown an interest and had signed the Mizoram player. However following the chit fund scam which has come to hurt the football clubs in Kolkata, the Mariners were unwilling to offer him a contract after having signed Anthony Pereira from Dempo SC.

“They (Mohun Bagan) told nothing about it. Nothing was explained. I got the notice all of a sudden. They assured that they will let me go if I sign for another club now,” he mentioned.

“I had offers from a number of teams including Mohammedan Sporting. But I decided to join Mohun Bagan, rejecting all the other offers," he confirmed.

It was then that East Bengal decided to make the most of the situation and offer Malswamtulunga a way out by joining the Red and Gold,

“We have not signed him till now,” East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar told Goal.

In his first stint with East Bengal, he was part of the treble winning squad under Subhash Bhowmick back in 2003.
