Carew closing in on shock Inter switch
The Norwegian appears to be on his way back to Serie A and is scheduled to undergo a medical with the Nerazzurri
Inter are on the verge of the shock signing of former Valencia and Aston Villa striker John Carew on a free transfer until the end of the season. The Nerazzurri are in the market for a new striker because of Diego Milito's injury, and were previously linked with the retired Ruud van Nistelrooy as well Mido and Emile Mpenza.
Nevertheless, they have now turned their attention to the 33-year-old Carew, who will undergo a medical over the next 48 hours.
Talking to reporters, the former Norway international said he was ready to play, adding: "This is a great opportunity for me.
"I feel in form. In these last months I have trained a lot."
Carew has been without a club ever since he left West Ham in the summer of 2012, but his agent Per Flod has stressed that his client is ready to return to match action.
"Inter are an interesting club for him because they are one of the biggest teams in the world. Someone with John's physique would be ready to play again within a week," Flod told the Associated Press.
Carew previously played in Serie A on loan at Roma in 2003-04, when he netted seven goals in 20 league appearances.
