Beckham set to join Paris Saint-Germain
The former England international has been without a club since December, but now appears to be on his way to the ambitious Ligue 1 side
Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of signing David Beckham on a free transfer, after the experienced midfielder underwent a medical at the La Pitie-Salpetriere hospital on Thursday afternoon ahead of his move to the Ligue 1 giants. The 37-year-old has been without a club since leaving LA Galaxy in December 2012, and had been training with Arsenal in recent weeks in order to stay fit.
Beckham had also been linked with clubs such as AC Milan and Monaco, but now seems destined to continue his career at PSG.
"On way to Paris, excited. I will update you all later," Beckham wrote on his official Facebook page on earlier on Thursday.
The midfielder was already believed to be close to joining the Parisiens a year ago, but the move failed to materialised.
The Ligue 1 leaders have scheduled a press conference for 17:00, where they are expected to announce the capture of Beckham.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville is confident that his former team-mate will succeed at in France.
"He’s still incredibly fit, I don’t think there will be a problem with his medical and he’s always been an incredibly fit player and someone who has got incredible stamina," Neville told Sky Sports.
"It’s another chance for him to continue to play at a really good level of football. Paris Saint-Germain have got a good team with plenty of exceptional players. He knows the manager there so that would be a positive move for him."
