Former England striker Emile Heskey reportedly a target for the Newcastle Jets

The veteran forward has reportedly held talks with the A-League club, having been without a club since his release from Aston Villa after the 2011-12 English Premier League season
England striker Emile Heskey has been linked with a move to A-League outfit Newcastle.
The 34-year-old centre forward – formerly of Leicester City, Liverpool, Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa over an 18-year career – has also travelled to three FIFA World Cups with England, winning 62 caps for the national team.
But after Villa announced they would not renew his contract at the end of the 2011-12 season, Heskey has been searching for a new club.
Now a free agent, Heskey - according to The Australian - reportedly met with Hunter Sports Group chief executive Troy Palmer and Newcastle football manager Robbie Middleby in the United Kingdom as the Jets bid for his services.
It seems likely that the target man will sign a one-year deal with Newcastle, who have another experienced English forward in Michael Bridges as part of their squad that is littered with young talent.
If Heskey does link up with Gary van Egmond's side, he can be expected to play an immediate role after keeping in good shape.
"I feel as fit and hungry as I have done in a long time and have been training everyday throughout the summer," Heskey recently said.
"As has been reported, I did receive a number of offers during the transfer window but didn't feel like any of them were the right opportunity for me at that time."
