Manchester City youngster Weiss set for exit to Serie A

Inter and Pescara lead the chase for the Slovakia international as he seeks regular first-team football after struggling to break through at the Premier League champions

Manchester City youngster Vladimir Weiss is set to leave the club this summer, with Serie A sides Inter and Pescara battling it out for his signature.

The 22-year-old winger is back with the Premier League champions after spending the last three seasons on loan with Bolton, Rangers and Espanyol, respectively.

Weiss has impressed City boss Roberto Mancini with his attitude in pre-season but is surplus to requirements and will be allowed to leave for a fee of around £2m.

Espanyol were keen to take him back to Spain but his reported £25,000 a week wages have proved a big stumbling block and a move to Italy now looks firmly on the cards.

Cash-strapped Inter are looking at a batch of potential starlets to rebuild their squad while Pescara have already confirmed their interest in Slovakian international Weiss.

The Serie B champions' sporting director Daniele Delli Carri revealed: "There is great interest in Jonathas and Weiss. We are still discussing their arrival.

"Jonathas is a very strong striker and Weiss is a winger who can play both on the right and left side. These are two very interesting players who can still grow."

Weiss was this week brought to both Serie A club's attention by agents and, with one-year left on his existing deal, the wide man is keen to make arrangements for his departure from City and is set to discuss his future with the Premier League champions over the next seven days.

The promising winger was initially tipped as one of the brightest prospects to come out of City's academy, but fell down the pecking order following Sheikh Mansour's takeover of the club in September 2008.
