French Football Federation confirms Deschamps meeting
The governing body stated that it has held new talks with the former Marseille coach, but did not state whether an agreement has finally been reached
The French Football Federation (FFF) has issued a statement confirming that it had a meeting with Didier Deschamps on Saturday.France Football had earlier reported that the 43-year-old would be officially unveiled before the end of the day, but the FFF has refused to reveal the outcome of the talks.
"Noel Le Graet, president of the French Football Federation, and Didier Deschamps met in Paris on Saturday. They engaged in a discussion on possible methods of cooperation for the post of coach of the France team," a brief statement read.
Deschamps is expected to make a decision during the weekend as he reflects on his future after stepping down as Olympique de Marseille coach on Monday.
The former Juventus midfielder, who took up coaching in 2001, had initially said that he would not take the post, but it seems that after a week of consideration he is ready to perform a U-turn.
Les Bleus face a difficult task to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, having been paired in the same group as European and world champions Spain.
