Sunderland have completed the signing of Wayne Bridge on loan for the remainder of the season from Manchester City.

The left-back found himself out of favour this season under Blues boss Roberto Mancini and only made one appearance for the club in a League Cup clash.

Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill revealed his delight at capturing Bridge, telling the club’s official website: "I'm hoping that with Wayne's undoubted experience and ability he can be a big help to the team until the end of the season.

"I'm very pleased to have him here and with the number of injuries we've sustained recently I'm sure he'll be a great help to us."

The former Aston Villa boss could hand Bridge his debut when the Black Cats host Norwich in an upcoming Premier League clash.

The 31-year-old has previously had spells at Southampton and Chelsea, as well as spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham and was linked with a move to Arsenal earlier in the transfer window.

Bridge joined City just over three years ago during Mark Hughes’ spell in charge of the club but has only managed to make 42 Premier League appearcances for the club.
