Chelsea look to be stepping up their chase for Marseille defender Cesar Azpilicueta after securing the signature of centre-back Gary Cahill, according to The Mirror.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas has turned his full attention to the Spanish right-back after finally completing the signing of the England international in a move to bolster his defence even further.

It is understood that talks have begun about bringing the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge and the defender has confirmed the club are interested.

He told reporters: "Chelsea need to talk about this with Marseille. At the moment I have a contract until 2014 and I am 100 per cent focused on my club."

The Spain under-21 star is thought to be available for around £12 million.
