The agent of Cristian Chivu has revealed that the Inter defender could join Real Madrid as a free agent next summer and has dismissed suggestions of his return to Ajax.
Chivu’s current contract with the Italian giants runs out at the end of the season and so far an agreement over a new deal has not been reached.
Recent reports have linked the 31-year-old with a move back to his old club Ajax, for whom he played between 1999 and 2003.
However, the Romanian’s representative has turned down the possibility of a return, instead saying that he has spoken with Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, who worked with the versatile defender between 2008 and 2010 at Inter.
"Back to Ajax? I'd say he could continue playing abroad, maybe at Real Madrid," Joan Becali is quoted as saying by ESPNSoccernet.
''I'm talking with three or four big-level teams. He can continue playing for four or five years.''
"Real? Mourinho knows him well. I've spoken with him, we'll see. The most important thing is that Cristian plays as a pure defender."

Chivu expressed his frustration last month at being played out of position at left-back at Inter and insisted that he is more comfortable as a central defender.
