AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has indicated the club will not sign any player before learning more about Antonio Cassano's recovery time.

The 29-year-old is currently recovering from the heart surgery he underwent earlier in the month, which was required after the attacker suffered cerebral trauma.

It had been suggested that Cassano would be out for up to six months, forcing Milan to sign a new striker in January to fill in for the ex-Sampdoria star.

However, Galliani has hinted that Cassano could return to action sooner than excepted by stating the club will not make a hasty decision on a replacement for the striker.

"We will see when Cassano will be able to return," Galliani told Sky Sport Italia. "If he had not suffered this problem, we would not go to the market in the first place. We will see.

"If he can recover quickly, we will not sign any striker in January. However, if we sign a player, it will only be on a loan basis, until June."

The Milan chief was non-committal when asked about the club's alleged interest in Chelsea forward Nicolas Anelka, who has been on the fringes of the action at Stamford Bridge this season.

"If Anelka continues to score, we will see," Galliani admitted. "He is an important player, but I was in love with Didier Drogba when he was at Olympique Marseille."

Gennaro Gattuso handed Milan a considerable boost by training with the squad on Monday, and Galliani is hopeful that the combative midfielder will soon return to action following a rare eye problem.

"He is constantly changing his glasses, so that means that he is improving," Galliani noted. "I was told he can fully recover any time.

"In terms of the exact recovery time, it is better to talk with the doctor, but it is a good sign he took part in the training game."
