Jose Mourinho Wants Real Madrid Return For Fernando Hierro - Report
The former Spain international is leaving his position with the Spanish football association this summer and could be on his way back to Santiago Bernabeu
.
Former Real Madrid defender Fernando Hierro could be on his way back to Santiago Bernabeu as head coach Jose Mourinho is eager to add the 43-year-old to the club's technical staff, Sport reports.
Hierro currently works as sporting director at the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), but will leave his position at the end of the season.
He made over 500 official appearances for Real Madrid during his career, but left the club for an adventure in the Middle East in 2003. He retired in the summer of 2005 before joining the RFEF two years later.
Mourinho wants to incorporate Hierro into the Real Madrid hierarchy this summer and is hopeful that club president Florentino Perez will hire the former defender to replace Jorge Valdano as the club's general director.
The Portuguese tactician has a difficult relationship with Valdano and would be happy to see him go at the end of the current campaign, thus paving the way for Hierro's return to Madrid.
