Roma After Valencia's Jeremy Mathieu - Report

French full-back has caught the attention of Roma with his good performances for Valencia and could be leaving his current club this summer

Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu could be on his way out of the Primera Division at the end of the season as ambitious Serie A side Roma have shown an interest in signing the full-back, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

The Italian giants are keen to add some fresh blood to their squad in the summer transfer window and they reportedly consider the 27-year-old as a welcome addition to their back-line ahead of the new season, with new owner Thomas DiBenedetto ready to bankroll a spending spree.

Mathieu started his professional career with Sochaux and also wore the jersey of Toulouse before joining Valencia in the summer of 2009. The French defender has since made over 50 official appearances for his current club.

The full-back's current contract with Valencia runs until the summer of 2012 and the Mestalla outfit could well decide to cash in on him in order to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer next year.
