Manchester City are preparing to pinch England manager Fabio Capello's right hand man Franco Baldini.
According to The People, the Eastlands outfit want the Italian coach to quit the international scene alongside Capello and join them in a senior role in their management team.
Baldini has worked as Capello's general manager, trusted assistant and fixer since the pair accepted the jobs with the FA, but there have been recent hints that he would favour a change.
Although a return to Italy seemed the most likely destination for the 49-year-old if he was to turn his back on the Three Lions, he may tempted by the chance to join Roberto Mancini's backroom staff.
His experience of football in England and overseas would certainly prove invaluable to Citizen's chief executive Garry Cook and Brian Marwood.
If Baldini were to leave, it would pave the way for Capello to undergo a sea-change in his backroom team, which has been reported to consist of some of England's youngest and brightest coaches.
Meanwhile, City have already acquired the services of one Italian this summer with former Sampdoria winger Attilio Lombardo joining Mancini's coaching staff.
