Milan President Silvio Berlusconi Warns Spending On Transfers Will Be Limited
Berlusconi has cause for concern as he fires a warning shot in relation to excessive spending...
By Salvatore Landolina
Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has said low-key spending will be the order of this summer's transfer market as he reminds the club that gone are the days of grandiose spending.
Despite being linked with a plethora of players including Edin Dzeko of Wolfsburg and Köln ace Lukas Podolski, Berlusconi suggests Milan are facing a financial straitjacket.
"In seven years I have spent €427 million of my own money on the club," he told La Stampa. "And then when I look at the balance sheet I feel like fainting."
Milan's struggle to get a grip on finances has led to reports of a takeover with both Gazprom and club sponsors Fly Emirates linked with buying Berlusconi's slice. And the chief jokingly said he would consider a sale.
"If they give me €427m, then I will," he added.
But, as the president "who has won more than anyone else," he is eager to continue at the helm.
La Stampa claims Milan are €10m in the red following the sale of Kaka to Real Madrid last year which allowed the club to bring their accounts towards financial sustainability.
