Godwin Franco, who had an amazing last season, thanked Pune FC for giving him the opportunity to grow in stature which paved the way for him signing for Dempo SC back in Goa.
"I had an amazing time at Pune and I am very happy to sign for Dempo. I also had offers from East Bengal and Churchill, and also Pune FC wanted me to stay. I am very thankful to coach Derrick Pereira under whom I has a very good season. I also thank the owners, management and everyone else at Pune FC," he said.
One of the young stars of last year's I-League, he also talked about his switch to Dempo back to Goa. Franco was also associated with Sporting Club de Goa before he had moved to Pune.
"The first thing is that I am thankful to God for helping me through my bad injury and for helping me with a very good season at Pune, a comeback better than ever before. My family, friends and fan following have also supported me always, when I was back from injury and when I was at my best with Pune FC.
"Dempo is the champion team of India, a very ambitious club who have done well in India and at the Asian level also. The coach (Armando Colaco) lets the players express themselves. I like the football they play, that is quality football with good ball possession and hence my style of play suits my place at Dempo," he explained.
The Goan also mentioned about his place in the State's Santosh Trophy team and hopes to bring back the prize for his homeland.
"The Santosh Trophy team practice start from Monday. We'll be basing our camp at Chowgule artificial turf ground here in Goa before going to Kolkata. We were the champions last year, so this time we are seeded directly in the quarters. I'll be looking forward to doing well for Goa and help in bringing back the prize for my state," said the lad with a gust of determination.
