Schalke 04 are interested in signing Real Madrid veteran striker Raul, according to news daily AS.

The Bundesliga side are in the market for a new goalscorer after losing Kevin Kuranyi to Dynamo Moscow and have placed the Spaniard high on their list of priorities.

After 16 years in a Madrid shirt, Raul knows his first-team chances at Santiago Bernabeu will be very limited next season and is currently assessing his options.

Schalke boss Felix Magath plans on bringing in an experienced forward, well acquainted with the demands of the Champions League, and Raul seems to fit the bill.

It is believed that Raul also has an offer to play in the MLS, but the prospect of continuing in a well-respected European league at a club that will play in the Champions League could prove very appealing to the 32-year-old.

Following Kuranyi's departure on a free transfer, Schalke do not have many funds for the area, but Raul could join the club on the same terms as AS reports Madrid would allow their long-time captain to leave for nothing if he asked for a new challenge.
