Ligue 1 : Laurent Koscielny (Lorient) vs Pierre-Alain Frau (Lille OSC)
Lorient have rejected an approach from Arsenal towards centre-back Laurent Koscielny, according to a report in L’Equipe on Friday.

Les Merlus signed the promising centre-back from Tours last season, and the 24-year-old was quick not only to establish himself as one of the best players at the Stade Moustoir, he also became recognised as one of the strongest defenders in Ligue 1.

Rumours that Arsenal were courting the 6ft 5in defender emerged earlier in the week, and an offer was supposedly forthcoming from the Gunners on Thursday. However, the Premier League club only offered €5 million, which is some way short of the Breton club’s asking price of €8m, though it’s not thought that Arsene Wenger will stretch to that price. Loic Fery, the Breton club's recently appointed president, was swift to turn down the offer.

Offers from other sources are likely to be forthcoming. Olympique Lyonnais and Lille both have eyes for the Caen youth product, but there are also likely to be approaches from elsewhere in Europe too. Zenit St. Petersburg have been associated with the player who was bought for €1.5m last summer.
