thumbnail Hello,

There was never a verbal agreement to release the ‘Special One’…

Inter President Massimo Moratti admits that Jose Mourinho’s decision to quit the club following an unprecedented treble of titles has somewhat marred their celebrations.

Mourinho is determined to exercise a get-out clause in his contract with the Italian giants in order to join Real Madrid, but negotiations are dragging on.

Asked if the stalemate is ruining their party mood, Moratti told Sky Sport 24: “The get-out clause is there and the party, if anything, was spoiled by Mourinho who is leaving.

“Mind you, I’m grateful to him because he brought happiness to us. I hope that an agreement will be struck in the coming hours or in a few days, at the very least.”

Mourinho is tied to the Serie A giants until June 2012, but press reports have claimed that a verbal agreement was in place to scrap the €16million get-out clause and release the Portuguese if he led the club to Champions League glory.

“Well, I never said that,” said Moratti. “Maybe [Real Madrid President] Florentino Perez came up with that…”
