Inter defender Maicon says he is running to stand still until after the World Cup when he will decide whether to move to Real Madrid, as Jose Mourinho uses the carrot and the stick to entice him over to Spain.
On Wednesday the player's agent Antonio Caliendo enticed the Blancos to launch a bid for him, claiming a €30 million bid would be received with a handshake and smiles all round.
And Real coach in-waiting Jose Mourinho has opened the door further when he said he would like to see the Brazilian at the Bernabeu.
"I cannot deny it and say that I wouldn't want him. I also feel Sergio Ramos can become one of the best central defenders in the world," Mourinho told AS this morning.
"I think that maybe it's time for him [Maicon] to try a new experience."
Maicon though is trying to bide his time. The focus is on the World Cup. Once that passes he will analyse the crossroads and step forth to secure his future.
"After the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League I want to win a fourth title - the World Cup with Brazil," he told the press.
"I will think about my future after that."
