Fiorentina boss Cesare Prandelli has been in touch with Italian Football Federation (FIGC) president Giancarlo Abete about the possibility of taking over from national team coach Marcello Lippi after the World Cup.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Viola tactician is reportedly set to take over from Lippi, and confirmation of this announcement will be made on June 8.

Abete and Prandelli had a second telephone conversation a few hours ago in regards to the position, where the former Juventus player allegedly agreed to take over the role.

In the meantime, Fiorentina have begun searching for a replacement tactician, but no candidates have been mentioned.

The Azzurri's first game in the World Cup is against Paraguay on June 14.
