With Jose Mourinho Likely To Leave For Real Madrid In The Summer Inter Milan Will Join The Race For Liverpool Boss Rafael Benitez - Report
Inter Milan have contacted Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez after realising that they are likely to lose Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid in the summer.
Liverpool has suffered from their worst season since 1999, losing 11 Premier League matches and barely qualifying for the Europa League after finishing in seventh place.
Mourinho has led Inter to a Champions League final date with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and will be looking to win the Serie A giants’ first European championship in 45 years.
The final will take place at Real’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on May 22 and should Inter emerge victorious the effort to sign Mourinho might be stepped up considerably.
With the possibility that the Portuguese manager will leave Inter could take advantage of Benitez’s situation at Liverpool and try to offer the Spaniard a big deal to replace Mourinho, according to The Sun.
Juventus have also shown a great deal of interest in Benitez during the season and would like to bring the Reds manager in to try and return the Turin giants to the Champions League after a poor season in which the club finished the Serie A season in seventh place this year.
Inter had denied earlier reports that they were after Benitez but with Real looking like they will pull out all the stops to bring Mourinho to Madrid it appears that the Serie A leaders have begun to speak with Benitez.
