Real Madrid Confident Chelsea's Ashley Cole Wants To Leave For Spain - Report

Real Madrid have identified Chelsea defender Ashley Cole as their primary summer transfer target, and believe the 29-year-old is keen on a move to the Spanish capital.

Real believe Cole will resolve their problematic left-back position, currently filled by former Liverpool man Alvaro Arbeloa, and believe his highly-publicised marital breakdown with popstar Cheryl Cole will convince him that he needs a fresh start abroad.

“The Englishman from Chelsea is the player for the job," Spanish newspaper Marca reported, quoting a Madrid source.

"He is one of the best players in the world and wants to come to Spain."

Cole is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained last month against Everton, an injury that is expected to keep him out until near the end of the campaign.

This season both Madrid and Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League in the first knockout round, at the hands of Olympique Lyonnais and Inter Milan respectively.
