Ignazio Abate’s representative has rejected speculation that Milan are ready to sacrifice the wing-back to bring in Roma central defender Philippe Mexes next summer.

“There is no truth in this news,” agent Andrea D’Amico told RomaGiallorossa.com.

“I can just say that Abate is a very important player for Milan and that Milan don’t want to release him so easily.”

But Milan are expected to reinforce their ageing back-line during the summer transfer window and Mexes, who has often been linked with a move to the Rossoneri in the past, could suit their needs.

“I don’t know, you should ask Roma about that,” added D’Amico.

“I can just talk about my client and say that he is settled at Milan.”

Abate, 23, signed a contract extension last month to remain at the San Siro until June 2014.
