Fulham Accept £7m Manchester United Bid For Defender Chris Smalling
Cottager could be set for shock move north...
By Zack Wilson
A Manchester United source told Goal.com UK: "A bid has been accepted and they club are awaiting permission to speak to the player and finalise a medical ahead of a possible transfer that we believe is a deal worth around £7 million in total.
"He chose to come to United at a time when a number of London based clubs expressed an interest in him. For United to convince him to relocate to the north is a significant coup."
United centre-back Rio Ferdinand continues to battle with injury whilst rumours linking Nemanja Vidic with a move to Spain won't go away.
Smalling was a reported target for Arsenal last week, with the Cottagers apparently rejecting an approach for the player from the Gunners.
He signed for Fulham in June 2008 after starting his career in non-league football with Kent side Maidstone United.
The 20-year-old's representatives are now understood to be in discussions as they look to finalise the deal.
Fulham have at this stage refused to comment on the possible deal.
