Report: Atletico Madrid To Offer David Bentley An Escape From Tottenham Hotspur

EPL: David Bentley, Arsenal - Tottenham Hotspur (PA)
The Mirror reports that Atletico Madrid are pondering a loan swoop for David Bentley, the out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

Much was expected of the former Arsenal man when he moved from Blackburn Rovers two summer ago in a £15 million deal, but his impact at White Hart Lane has been minimal at best.

With Aaron Lennon now the undisputed first choice on Spurs' right flank, manager Harry Redknapp has allegedly told Bentley that he is free to start seeking employment elsewhere.

However, the Tottenham board is hoping to get most of its money back for the England outcast, with chairman Daniel Levy aiming to recoup a reported sum of £12m.

But in the meantime a loan move is on the cards, and Bentley is said to be keen on the idea of following in the footsteps of his one-time Gunners colleague, Jermaine Pennant, by moving to Spain.

Atletico - who currently sit 11th in La Liga - are eager to strengthen their flanks this month, especially with captain Maxi Rodriguez looking likely to depart the Vicente Calderon.
