Manchester United Step Up Interest In Palermo's Simon Kjaer - Report
The Red Devils are ready to test Maurizio Zamparini's transfer mettle...
According to the Daily Mail, Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate to land the 20-year-old in an attempt to cover for the high number of injuries that have struck down his defence. The report claims interest at Old Trafford has been inflated because of injuries to John O'Shea, Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand.
Sources claim United are planning to arrange a deal quickly to beat the competition to the Danish international as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus are also said to be interested in him.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini opened the door to offers last month when he revealed a trade was possible, but only if his stringent conditions are met.
"I haven't heard from anyone. It's the agent who talks. I hope to keep Kjaer for another year or so, and I am sure he will be happy," Zamparini told Tuttomercatoweb.com in November.
"He has a €12m release clause in his contract, but it has to be in cash with no co-ownership deals or payment options."
Despite the report, the Rosanero are unlikely to sell mid-season. New coach Delio Rossi is trying to build a steady framework and would be unhappy to see one of his star defenders leave. Furthermore, Kjaer has already claimed he will decide on his future after the World Cup.
