Manchester United Pull Out Of Adem Ljajic Deal

Deal over troubled waters...

Adem Ljajic
Manchester United have confirmed they have chosen not to sign Serbian starlet Adem Ljajic from Partizan.

The 18-year-old was part of a £16.5 million deal that also saw his former team-mate Zoran Tosic make a move to the Premier League giants last season.

However, following 12 months of close monitoring, the Red Devils have reportedly decided to use a get-out clause in the deal and shut the door on Ljajic.

A spokesperson for the club said: "We had an option to buy the player but, having closely monitored his development over the past 12 months, and taken into consideration the young players emerging through the ranks at the club, we have not chosen to pursue the transfer."

However, the president of the Serbian club, Dragan Djuric, claims that a work permit is the thing that has hindered the transfer from being completed.

"I read the news in our media about the possibility that Adem Ljajic will not go to Manchester," Djuric told the Serbian media.

"All this is in the field of speculation. The truth is that Manchester United has not yet arranged a work permit to our players, but so far none of them refused.

"Maybe the news came because Manchester United is in financial crisis, but believe me we did not get anything official."

The youngster's representative, Mladen Furtala, has refused to push the panic button, and remains hopeful of a positive conclusion to the situation.

"As far as I know, the only problem is the work permit," he said.

"Manchester can solve this quickly. Journalists called me, asking what was happening, but I am confident that everything will be OK at best and that from January Ljajic will be officially a Manchester United player."
