Aston Villa are apparently making plans to bring Real Zaragoza midfielder Jermaine Pennant back to the Premier League in the January transfer window.

Pennant spent much of last season on loan at Portsmouth from Liverpool before opting to move to Spain when his Anfield contract expired at the end of the campaign.

He has made only ten appearances for his new club though and has not seemed to settle too well in Spain.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill would like to see Pennant adding further competition for places in the wide positions, according to The News of the World.

It is not known whether O'Neill is considering a loan deal or an offer to move permanently.
