Manchester United are showing no signs of giving up hope for Napoli whiz Marek Hamsik after one of their scouts was seen watching the playmaker in action.

Napoli-based Il Mattino claims David Williams, a close friend of Sir Alex Ferguson, was at the Ennio Tardini on Sunday to see Hamsik play. The Slovakian played the whole game against Parma as his side drew 1-1 after taking a first half lead.

The report claims Williams was monitoring Hamsik and that he is the primary objective at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils are likely to encounter difficulty in signing the talented youngster. Azzurri president Aurelio De Laurentiis razed suggestions his star man was for sale last week.

"Many clubs have requested Hamsik, it's true, but he will stay with us for the long-term," De Laurentiis told the press.
