Former Inter coach Roberto Mancini has been tipped to replace Guus Hiddink at the helm of the Russian national team.

According to Sportmediaset.it, 'Mancio' went to observe a few Russian league matches to gain further insight into the game in the country.

The report claims he is now ready to evaluate an offer. The coach has been out of action since May 2008, when he left the Nerazzurri. He has recently rescinded the contract that was tying him to the club and is now free to move on.

It is said Hiddink wants to leave the team after failing to lead them to the World Cup. Russia were knocked at the play-off stage by Slovenia.

That disappointment as well as a reported interest in returning to Chelsea could prompt him to leave. He would return to the Premier League to work alongside Carlo Ancelotti as a technical director, according to The Guardian.

Despite the reports, neither Mancini nor Hiddink have confirmed their future plans.
