Are Liverpool about to lose another Spaniard to Real Madrid?

Following Alvaro Arbeloa's departure from Liverpool to join Real Madrid comes the news that his compatriot and team-mate, Xabi Alonso, has asked for a transfer.

The Spain international is now likely to join the Merengues recruitment drive, a move that will inevitably lead to more exits from the Bernabeu.

Gabriel Heinze will join Marseille in a matter of hours, if reports in France are to be believed.

Meanwhile, Klaas Jan Huntelaar could still join Tottenham Hotspur, according to Harry Redknapp, while Wesley Sneijder could emerge as a target for AC Milan, if they lose Andrea Pirlo to Chelsea.

Milan are also still in the hunt for a striker and have been encouraged by Luis Fabiano's agent to make a renewed attempt to snare the Sevilla striker.

However, a move for David Trezeguet looks dead in the water; the Juventus front-man is happy to stay where he is.

Staying in Italy, Napoli have yet to receive an offer for Ezequiel Lavezzi and the Vesuviani could be set to welcome Andrea Dossena to their ranks as soon as Monday.

The champions, Inter, are still determined to shed four more players before the start of the season; Patrick Vieira has been linked with a return to his former stomping ground at Arsenal but rumours of exits have not stopped whispers of yet more arrivals at Jose Mourinho's team.

Marko Arnautovic remains a possibility, although his agent maintains that no deal has yet been done. Likewise, the representative of Antonio Cassano has played down the possibility of a Sampdoria exit for his client.

Liverpool are supposedly going to replace Xabi Alonso with Roma's Alberto Aquilani, although the midfielder is said to favour staying with his current club.

Martin Caceres heads the list of arrivals into Serie A today meanwhile; the Barcelona centre-back underwent a medical at Juventus.

Also, Valeri Bojinov has clinched his loan deal to Parma from Manchester City on a busy day for Mark Hughes' side. Elano has departed for Galatasaray, while the Citizens are planning to test Everton's resolve with another bid for the defender, Joleon Lescott.

Kolo Toure has already completed his switch from Arsenal and faced the press as a Manchester City player for the first time today.

Barcelona are busy offloading. Along with Martin Caceres, Aliaksandr Hleb has left Camp Nou on loan. The Belarusian is once again with VfB Stuttgart, the club at which he made his name. Eidur Gudjohnsen could follow the Iceland international out of the Blaugrana as a move to West Ham United edges closer.

The French champions, Bordeaux, have sealed a deal for Lorient's Michael Ciani, ending their pursuit for a centre back.

Finally, it seems that Lyon and Marseille are locked in a battle to sign Daniel Guiza from Fenebahce.
