After it was verbally announced that the former Chelsea and Real Madrid man would remain playing with les Parisiens for another year at the end of the season, it has been confirmed over the weekend.

The veteran of 36 years had previously indicated verbally that he would continue at the Parc des Princes for the 2009-10 season, and this was confirmed on Friday evening.
“To prolong my career with Paris was my goal at the end of the season,” Makelele stated to the AFP news agency. “I felt as if I had already signed. I am pleased to make this decision and hope that we will achieve a season full of emotion for the players, the club and the supporters.”
The forthcoming season is likely to be the swansong of Makelele’s career, and he will seek a strong conclusion with les Parisiens, who possess lofty ambitions for the new term, at least according to fellow seasoned campaigner Ludovic Giuly.
“I came here to help take the club forward and win trophies,” said the former Roma man, according to Ligue 1’s official website. “Last year we wanted to finish in the top eight. This season, we have to go for the podium.
"I ended last season frustrated, because we gave up as certain players started thinking about their own future too soon."
As a result of a poor conclusion to the season, PSG missed out on Europe this season - which has at least given them the chance to focus solely on domestic competition.
