Real Madrid defender Royston Drenthe is set to sign for Fiorentina on Monday after both clubs agreed a €9.5 million deal, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
On Wednesday night, Goal.com Italia claimed the Viola had beaten off stiff competition from Genoa, who were also after the player. New developments overnight suggest Fiorentina chief Pantaleo Corvinco has struck a deal with Los Merengues. The report in La Gazzetta suggests the Italian club will pay €9.5m to the Bernabeu side, while the player has agreed a €1.5m per season wage deal.
Earlier reports from Sky Sport Italia has claimed Real Madrid would not budge on their €11.5m asking fee, but Ernesto Bronzetti, the FIFA agent, claimed Corvino would pay no more than €8m.
Nevertheless, voices surrounding the player seem certain he will put pen to paper on Monday. The Viola have been looking for a stopper as Corvino strengthens for next season's Champions League adventure.
Drenthe arrived in Madrid in 2007, but he has not managed to break into the starting XI and hold down a regular place.
