Liverpool Target Olympique de Marseille Captain Lorik Cana – Report

Lorik Cana (Marseille)

According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Premier League club Liverpool are lining-up an end of season move for Olympique de Marseille's Lorik Cana.

Apparently, Reds manager Rafael Benitez is a huge fan of les Phoceens' captain, whose playing style has been compared to that of Xabi Alonso.

It is said that the Spanish tactician has made enquiries about the Albania international midfielder's availability, and the 25-year-old has been valued at approximately €11.1 million (£10m).

The news calls into question Alonso's future at Anfield, with recent reports claiming that Italian giants Juventus are keen to snap him during the close season.

However, it is claimed that Benitez would like to sign Cana whether or not Alonso is still a member of his squad next season.

It is also thought that the interest in Cana will not have any bearing on a potential move for Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry, who is being tipped to finally join Liverpool this summer.
