Manchester City Planning Summer Swoop For David Villa - Report
The Citizens are putting together a mammoth package to land the striker at the end of the season...
Citizens manager Mark Hughes was quoted as saying that he would not pay over the odds for players and would therefore not be following up his enquiry for the Spanish striker as he did not merit a €90 m bid.
However, according to a report in the British tabloid the Daily Star, City are preparing an offer in the region of €73 to land the 27-year-old in the summer.
While Valencia have so far been able to keep hold of their key players it is claimed that they will eventually have to part with one of the stars to balance the books.
It is alleged that Los Che will accept an offer of €73 m (£70 m) plus either Elano or Jo and that the club's sporting director Fernando Gomez has not ruled out the possibility of Villa leaving.
"We are calm at the moment, but it is normal for people to be talking about David," Gomez is quoted as saying.
"He is our best striker and we do not want to sell him. But, in football, nothing is impossible."
