Blaise Matuidi believes Paris Saint-Germain have shown that they have what it takes to compete with the best following their 2-2 Champions League draw against Barcelona.
The holding midfielder netted a late equaliser to help PSG to a hard-fought draw in the first-leg of the quarter-final tie, and Matuidi was content with the final result.
"I am quite satisfied. We played well tonight against the best team in the world. We showed we could compete with the best. We proved that PSG have a soul and a real team. People will be able to count on us in the Champions League for the next few years," Matuidi was quoted as saying on the official Uefa website.
"There was a magical atmosphere and I think we gave the French public a lot of pleasure. We played with our heart and showed courage. The feeling in the dressing room after the game was a bit mixed. We were happy but also a bit frustrated by the scoreline. We had as many chances as them, if not more.
"It is going to be very difficult over there. They have scored two away goals, but it is great that we equalised at the end. We will try to replicate our performance in Barcelona.
"I am happy to have scored, but unfortunately I will be suspended for the second leg. I will be the team's number one fan over there."
The return at Camp Nou will be played on April 10.
