With the last-eight clashes upon us, James Richardson and our panel of experts discuss the key talking points
Paul Macdonald, James Richardson and Peter Staunton sat down to debate what the talking points could be when the reigning Bundesliga champions take on the cash-strapped Liga club.
Staunton explained: "If I had to rely on one or the other to carry a team through a tie I’d go for Isco over Gotze. I think he does more for Malaga individually than Gotze does for Dortmund."
Macdonald agreed, adding: "Isco for me. It’s testament to how highly he’s valued in Spain and in Europe that he’s on the periphery of the Spain squad, and I would say he’s one of the best players in Europe at the moment."
Despite this, both experts favour BVB to edge through to the semi-final stage at the expense of the Spanish side in early April.
Staunton continued: "I think Dortmund can overcome Malaga, who are a weaker side to Shakhtar - who we saw Dortmund eliminate with ease in the last round - and as long as they can avoid Barcelona in the next round, I see no reason why they can’t beat a Juventus or Real Madrid - like they showed in the group stages - and go on to the win the trophy."
Macdonald said: "I tipped them to get past Porto in the last round but I think this might be a step too far for them this time, particularly as the second leg is in Dortmund."
What sort of action are you predicting on Wednesday night? Will Malaga prove to be pluckier than our experts predict? Or will Jurgen Klopp’s team sweep them aside?
