Borussia Dortmund's goal is Wembley, says Santana
The Brazilian is looking to reach the final of European football's elite competition, with the club's hopes of retaining their Bundesliga title all but extinguished
Borussia Dortmund defender Felipe Santana has sets his sights on the Champions League final at Wembley after his side crushed Shakhtar Donetsk last week.
BVB secured their place in the quarter-finals of the competition with a 3–0 win over the Ukrainian side, with the German outfit ultimately going through 5-2 on aggregate.
Santana, who gave Dortmund the lead with a 37th minute header, expressed his own personal goal, with the latter stages of the tournament now emerging on the horizon.
He told reporters: “Our target is [the final at] Wembley - of course it is. But we obviously know how hard it’s going to be to get there.
“If we really want to make it, we’ve got to maintain our level of performance. There are still some tough games ahead of us and for now we’ve got to take things step by step. First and foremost we’ve got to concentrate on our Bundesliga fortunes.”
Dortmund dominated the second-leg clash against Shakhtar, a performance that left the 27-year-old full of admiration for his team-mates.
He added: “For all but a few minutes, we put in an almost perfect performance. We gave our opponents very few goalscoring opportunities and converted our chances, so you have to congratulate the whole team.
"I’m delighted with the match, the victory and of course the goal that I scored."
