Robben has ‘mixed feelings’ despite triumph
The Netherlands winger did not start in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 away win over Arsenal on Tuesday, but hopes he can reclaim his spot in Jupp Heynckes’ XI soon
Arjen Robben has conceded he has "mixed feelings" in the aftermath of Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Arsenal in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday.
The winger remains out of favour under Jupp Heynckes this season, and goals from Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic will not have given the Allianz Arena coach reason to reconsider who starts in attack for the Bavarians.
The Netherlands winger, who came off the bench in the second half, told NOS: "I am happy because we won 3-1 at Arsenal in the Champions League. We made a big step towards the quarter final.
"I've had a difficult time with a lot of different injuries [this season]. I had hoped that I would get my spot in the starting XI back sooner.
"I'll just have to be patient now. Especially when the team plays like today [Tuesday], it's very hard to complain.
"I just have to keep going. I have a bit of mixed feelings, especially when we win. Without being arrogant, I think I can add something to Bayern when I'm fit."
Robben’s Roten team-mate Franck Ribery started in the Emirates triumph, and he believes the side’s European experience showed against the Gunners.
"We played a very good game and we're happy for the win," he told BeIn Sport. "We have put ourselves in a very good position for the second leg.
"Now, we are beginning to deal well with the high level. We are accustomed to these competitions now. The Champions League is very important for us and we showed it tonight [Tuesday]."
Bayern will be confident they can qualify for the quarter-final stage with a two-goal lead and the second leg being played at home, on March 13.
