thumbnail Hello,

The Spaniard conceded that the Blues had more luck than Bayern Munich as they edged out the German side on penalties to win Europe's most prized trophy

Fernando Torres has admitted that Chelsea were lucky as they defeated Bayern Munich on penalties to win their first Champions League title.

‘El Nino’ has experienced an often difficult time since his £50 million transfer from Liverpool in January 2011, and explained that the Chelsea squad as a whole had endured a testing season, but conceded that on the night, the Blues enjoyed greater fortune than their German opponents.

The out-of-contract Ivorian took the game to extra time with an 88th minute header

"It's been a tough season for the team and we have even changed our coach, but today we have had the luck Bayern didn't have, Torres told Marca.

The Spanish striker went on to praise the team's spirit in overcoming set-backs, and highlighted a key change during the campaign.

"We have played like a team and we have faced the bad moments properly. We may have [had] no luck at the beginning of the season but today we had. It was live or die today.

"As the season went on, we realised how we had to play and so we did today. It's not the most beautiful football, but we won."
