thumbnail Hello,

The defender missed Chelsea's 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Wembley earlier in May but is in line to start against the German outfit in the Champions League final

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is yearning for Champions League success after missing out on his side's FA Cupfinal victory through injury.

The 26-year-old picked up a hamstring strain in the opening minutes of the Blues' second-leg semi-final draw with Barcelona and has not appeared in the first team since.

And Cahill hopes the Bayern Munich clash can make up for missing out on the 2-1 Wembley win over Liverpool earlier in May.

“That was a sickener for me because it would have been a big part in my career,” he told the club's official website. “So for me to make this one is a huge moment.”

Cahill, who was selected in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man Euro 2012 squad this week, also admitted it is daunting that his first final will be in the biggest club competition of them all.

He continued: “It's my first final and it's in the biggest competition - sink or swim.

“You come here to play in these competitions and be a part of this. We've got a great chance now to lift the best trophy in club football. I did win a few things as a kid, but nothing since.”

GOLDEN GARY
12/1 Gary Cahill is 12/1 with Paddy Power to score at any time in the Champions League Final.

The centre-back moved to Stamford Bridge from Bolton in January and revealed his delight at having settled in so quickly as the west London outfit have made two cup finals.

“It's been a mad season and a fantastic season for me,” Cahill continued. “Making a move here has obviously worked out really well.

“First to win the FA Cup and now to go into this huge game in my first six months here is really crazy.”

Chelsea skipper John Terry will not be involved on the pitch on Saturday night due to his suspension following a red card against Barcelona, but Cahill believes he will still be influential.

“He's a big presence in our team and our dressing room,” the defender said.

“He won't be playing but he'll be involved in the build-up and in the dressing room. He'll be a big part of the day and we'll all see his influence.”
